হারিয়ে যাওয়া মায়ের সন্ধানে [The Miracle in Dhaka]

Description

A book about the search for one’s own identity and the long journey back to one’s roots. The Miracle in Dhaka: The Truth About the Adoption is a deeply moving true-life story about identity, loss, adoption, motherhood, and an extraordinary journey back to one’s roots. In 1961, Feroza is born into extreme poverty in Dhaka. Orphaned as a child and subjected to abuse, she is married at twelve to an older man, Basir. After he is brutally murdered amid the political turmoil of post-independence Bangladesh, thirteen-year-old Feroza is left homeless and pregnant. She gives birth to a daughter, Moushumi, but, unable to feed or protect her, is forced to place the baby in an orphanage. She is told that the child will be safe and that she may eventually reclaim her. Instead, Moushumi is adopted and taken to Norway, where she grows up as Elisabeth in a loving family, unaware of the circumstances of her birth. Decades later, a question about her biological heritage awakens Elisabeth’s desire to discover her origins. Her search leads through forgotten adoption records, Bangladesh’s turbulent history, and evidence surrounding children sent abroad for adoption. After 49 years, the impossible happens: Elisabeth discovers her biological mother, Feroza, and travels to Bangladesh to meet her. Their reunion becomes a profound encounter between two women separated by history, geography, poverty, and circumstance. The book is ultimately a story of survival, maternal love, identity, and the enduring human need to know where we come from.
